Key Findings:  This review expands on the normal boundaries of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) by adding another component i.e. the endocannabinoidome (eCBome). More specifically the eCBome is defined as a complex lipid signaling system comprised of a greater variety of fatty acid-derived mediators (>100) their receptor sites and an abundance of enzymes (>50 proteins) that are involved in energy metabolism and a number of pathological conditions associated with them. The researchers include several examples of how the triangle consisting of lifestyle–eCBome–microbiome impacts both metabolic health and well being namely the use of cannabis, the effects of exercise, the effects of sunlight/vitamin D, and the positive metabolic effects commonly observed when eating spicy foods, probiotics and dietary fiber, and dietary fats.
