Key Findings:  This review of herbal alternatives to treat pediatric abdominal-pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs) which include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia (FD), abdominal migraine, and functional abdominal pain (FAP), suggests that herbal remedies are well tolerated and at least match up to placebo in efficacy. They included peppermint oil, Iberogast®, cannabis, fennel, and licorice as herbal treatments. There are currently few studies looking specifically at cannabis for IBS, and the risk of worsening hyperemesis remains a concern.
