Lactobacillus acidophilus modulates intestinal pain and induces opioid and cannabinoid receptors

Key Findings:  The oral administration of Lactobacillus acidophilus induced the expression of mu-opioid and cannabinoid receptors in intestinal epithelial cells resulting in analgesic effects in the test animals similar to morphine.
