PRIMARY STUDY

Protection against septic shock and suppression of tumor necrosis factor alpha and nitric oxide production by dexanabinol (HU-211), a nonpsychotropic cannabinoid

Key Findings:  Results show the ability of HU-211 to suppress inflammatory cytokines (TNFalpha) production and to rescue mice and rats from endotoxic shock. HU-211 may, therefore, have therapeutic implications in the treatment of TNFalpha-mediated pathologies.

Type of Study:  Animal Study

Study Result:  Positive

Research Location(s):  Israel

Year of Pub:  1997

Cannabinoids Studied:  HU-x Synthetic Cannabinoids

Phytocannabinoid Source:  Not Applicable

Ligands Studied:  Anti-inflammatory cytokines, Pro-inflammatory cytokines

Dosage: HU-211, administered i.p. 30 min before lipopolysaccharide (LPS), significantly reduced lethality in the test animals.
