PRIMARY STUDY

Are cannabis use disorders associated with an earlier age at onset of psychosis? A study in first episode schizophrenia

Key Findings:  This study found that in individuals with first-episode schizophrenia, those with cannabis use disorders (CUD) typically initiated cannabis use before the onset of schizophrenia symptoms and were more likely to be male, have a younger age at onset of symptoms, poorer socioeconomic status, better premorbid social adjustment, and more severe positive symptoms, suggesting that the relationship between CUD and schizophrenia onset is complex and influenced by multiple demographic and clinical factors.
