PRIMARY STUDY

Enhancing Psychological Interventions for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Treatment with Memory Influencing Drugs

Key Findings:  This review highlights the promising efficacy of combining exposure-based therapy with pharmacological treatments in PTSD, noting the complex and diverse mechanisms of action of the drugs involved, some of which enhance extinction learning or block fear memory reconsolidation. However, careful timing and dosage of these drugs are crucial, as they can either facilitate or hinder the therapeutic process, with additional non-pharmacological approaches also showing potential, necessitating further research especially in the context of the heightened PTSD prevalence post-COVID-19 pandemic.
