Opioid-Sparing Effect of Cannabinoids: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Key Findings:  Through meta-analyses, it was found that the doses of morphine and codeine required to produce the same analgesic effect were 3.6 and 9.5 times lower, respectively, when co-administered with delta-9-THC. Most studies (17 of the 19) demonstrated that combining a cannabinoid with an opioid resulted in a synergistic effect on analgesia compared to the analgesic effects of the individual drugs.
