PRIMARY STUDY

Pro-resolution, protective and anti-nociceptive effects of a cannabis extract in the rat gastrointestinal tract

Key Findings:  In this study, researchers tested the effects of a simple extract of medicinal cannabis for its ability to promote resolution of colitis, to prevent gastric damage induced by naproxen, and to reduce gastric distention-induced visceral pain. Results demonstrated significant improvement in the symptoms of the test animals after treatment with an extract of medicinal cannabis at doses that did not produce detectable urinary levels of THC. Symptoms that were alleviated included: diarrhea, weight loss, inflammation, and ulcerated tissue.
